#2 Men’s basketball overcomes slow start for road win at Quinsigamond
After being held scoreless in the games opening four minutes and falling behind 9-0, the NECC men’s basketball team began to apply pressure and stormed past the Wyverns of Quinsigamond Community College by a 87-69 final on Saturday afternoon to improve to 6-0 on the season and 4-0 in Region 21 play.
Worcester, MA (November 19, 2023) - After being held scoreless in the games opening four minutes and falling behind 9-0, the NECC men's basketball team began to apply pressure and stormed past the Wyverns of Quinsigamond Community College by a 87-69 final on Saturday afternoon to improve to 6-0 on the season and 4-0 in Region 21 play.
Following the slow start, the Knights took a 16-15 at the 14 minute mark of the opening stanza before taking a 10 point lead into the locker room at halftime 56-46.
Luis Reynoso (Lawrence) and Javien Kirmil (Lowell) shared the game high scoring honors as they each recorded 18 points while Reynoso added 13 rebounds for his 6th double-double of the season. The duo combined to go 7 for 11 from behind the three point arc.
Jalen Aquino (Lawrence) and Karl Wolfgang (Doula, CM) also recoded double figures with 15 and 10 points each.
Edwin SamMbaka (Paris, FR) was a stalwart on the defensive end as he picked up five steals, while Reynoso and Kyoya Sasaki (Tokyo, JP) dished out seven and six assists respectively.
The Knights will return to the court next weekend when they host SUNY Adirondack at 2:00pm on Saturday in the opening game of the 2nd annual NECC Turkey Classic, featuring six games on Saturday and Sunday with a pair of men's games each day. Admission is free to all games.
