Women’s basketball rallies to defeat Washington County in closing seconds
The Northern Essex women’s basketball team rallied from a nine-point deficit late in the third quarter of Monday night’s game against Washington County as Rhaelyn Gutierrez drove to the basket and scored the game winner with 4.2 seconds remaining to give the Knights a 54-52 victory.
Haverhill, MA (February 10, 2026) – The Northern Essex women's basketball team rallied from a nine-point deficit late in the third quarter of Monday night's game against Washington County as Rhaelyn Gutierrez (Methuen) drove to the basket and scored the game winner with 4.2 seconds remaining to give the Knights a 54-52 victory. In the process they improved their overall record to 10-11 on the season.
The Knights trailed by four points heading into the fourth quarter, 44-40, before Shaneley Henriquez (Haverhill) rattled off the firs six points of the quarter to give the Knights their first lead of the second half. She finished the game with 18 points. Gutierrez recorded a game high 19 points.
Rebecca Heathman (Billerica) grabbed some important rebounds in the closing minutes as she finished a team high 14 rebounds in the contest.
The Knights will return to the court on Sunday for their final road game of the regular season when they travel to Bristol for a 1:00pm contest with the Bayhawks in Taunton.
